It’s time for Ohio’s required state assessments, and at New Horizons Academy, our focus remains right where it belongs—on the well-being and individual needs of our students.

We recognize that standardized testing is not always an appropriate or meaningful reflection of the abilities, progress, or potential of students with unique learning and developmental needs. While these assessments are a state requirement, we understand that they often provide little insight into the remarkable growth and accomplishments we witness in our classrooms every day.

Our dedicated teachers and staff will work to make the testing experience as comfortable, supportive, and stress-free as possible, providing appropriate accommodations and encouragement along the way.

We simply ask our families to approach this testing period with patience, understanding, and a positive attitude. Encourage your child to do their best, but please don’t place unnecessary pressure on them. There is no need for added stress or anxiety over a test that cannot possibly capture the full picture of who they are or how far they’ve come.

Spring 2024 Grade 3 – High School State Exams

• March 29, 2027 – April 16, 2027 – English Language Arts (ELA)
• April 19, 2027 – May 7, 2027 – Math, Science, Social Studies (History)

At New Horizons Academy, we measure meaningful progress in so many other ways—in newfound independence, stronger communication, personal achievements, growing confidence, and the countless everyday victories that make each student’s journey unique.

A test score does not define your child. It does not measure their worth, determine their potential, or diminish the incredible accomplishments they’ve achieved.
