Ohio Special Needs Scholarship Opportunities

Are your child’s needs being met?

The state of Ohio offers choices for families when their home school (public or private) is not able to meet the needs of their children with disabilities.

Autism Scholarship

The Autism Scholarship Program (ASP) gives the parents of children with Autism who qualify for a scholarship the choice to send the child to a special education program other than the one operated by the school district of residence to receive their education and the services outlined in the child’s individualized education program (IEP).

Any student who has been identified by their district as a child with Autism and for whom the district has created an individualized education plan (IEP) qualifies for the Autism Scholarship program. The student must have a current IEP from the district of residence that is finalized and all parties, including the parent, must be in agreement with the IEP. A child is eligible to apply to participate in the program when the child turns three.

New Horizons Academy is a registered Autism Scholarship provider and provides IEP-based services in accordance with the guidelines of the Ohio Department of Education Autism Scholarship Program.

The Autism Scholarship program cycle begins on July 1 and continues through June 30 of the following year. All Autism Scholarships expire each year on June 30th and must be renewed if the child is to continue to receive services.

Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship

The Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship (JPSN) allows the Ohio Department of Education to pay a scholarship to the parents of a qualified child with certain disabilities who are eligible to attend kindergarten through 12th grade and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their district of residence.

Like the Autism Scholarship, the JPSN gives parents a choice of sending their child to a special education program, other than the one operated by their child’s school district, to receive the services outlined in the child’s individualized education program (IEP). The JPSN provides different funding amounts based on the disability, and therefore may not cover the entire cost of tuition at New Horizons Academy.

The Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship program cycle begins on July 1 and continues through June 30 of the following year. All JPSN Scholarships expire each year on June 30th and must be renewed if the child is to continue to receive services.

New Horizons Academy is a registered provider of the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship and provides IEP-based services in accordance with the guidelines of the Ohio Department of Education.
